Import requirements & restrictions

  • Import verification program required

Importers of food for humans or animals into the United States must develop, maintain, and follow a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for each food/foreign-supplier combination, verifying the supplier produces food meeting US safety standards, per FDA's FSMA rule (21 CFR Part 1 Subpart L). First compliance dates began 30 May 2017.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

  • Import prohibited

Goods mined, produced, or manufactured wholly or in part in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), or by an entity on the UFLPA Entity List, are prohibited from importation into the United States under the rebuttable presumption in the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (19 U.S.C. Section 1307) -- unless the importer provides "clear and convincing evidence" the goods were not produced with forced labor. Applies even to finished goods produced outside XUAR if they contain XUAR-origin raw materials or components (e.g. cotton, polysilicon).
