Import requirements & restrictions
Import licensing required
Approximately 3% of Tunisia's tariff lines (including agricultural products, automobiles, and textiles) are excluded from the general free-import regime and require an import authorization issued by the Ministry of Trade, valid for one year (shorter for certain sensitive goods, per source).
Tunisian Ministry of Trade
Import prohibited
Import of used passenger vehicles into Tunisia is restricted to a 5-year age limit from manufacture (in force since 2012), with customs duty increasing progressively with vehicle age up to that limit. A 2026 Finance Law addition allows a family-car exception up to 8 years old, on condition the vehicle is not resold within 5 years of import. An annual quota caps the total number of vehicles importable under this regime (domestically-assembled vehicles are not subject to the quota).
