Import requirements & restrictions

  • Import licensing required

Switzerland unilaterally applies the "Cassis de Dijon" principle (incorporated into its own Law on Technical Barriers to Trade): products already legally on the market in the EU or EEA may be imported and sold in Switzerland without also needing to satisfy Swiss-specific technical rules -- except for items on a published negative list, or where overriding public interest applies. Foodstuffs are a specific exception: regardless of EU/EEA legality, they require Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) authorization before first marketing in Switzerland.
