Import requirements & restrictions

  • Import permit required

An Import Permit from the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade is required for prohibited/restricted goods generally, and specifically for all vehicles into Seychelles -- a provisional import permit is explicitly NOT valid for customs clearance. Second-hand vehicle imports are restricted by law for environmental protection, and left-hand-drive vehicle imports are separately controlled since Seychelles uses the British (right-hand-drive) traffic system. Importing without a valid permit risks a fine, vehicle seizure, or both. Fully prohibited: firearms/ammunition (including replicas), offensive weapons (bombs, grenades), radioactive substances, controlled drugs, and toxic chemicals including asbestos.
