Import requirements & restrictions

  • Import permit required

Import of plants, animals, minerals, and biological products into Australia is governed by the Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON), covering 20,000+ commodity combinations, administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). Many commodities require a biosecurity import permit obtained before shipment (standard-category permits typically issued within 20 business days, non-standard within 40); a commodity not listed in BICON at all is generally not permitted entry. Applies especially strictly to fresh fruit/vegetables and meat/poultry products.
